Yamaha R15 has been the benchmark for beginners which offers a great balance of pricing, performance, and dynamics. Additionally, the super sports styling of the Yahama R15 V3 made the Yamaha R15 super popular among youngsters. KTM, on the other hand, wants to achieve that with the new KTM 125 Duke. The Yamaha R15 has the advantage when it comes to performance with more power and torque than the 125 Duke.
The Yamaha R15 V3 (YZF-R15 V3) has a liquid-cooled 155cc engine that generates 19 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 15 Nm of torque at 8500 rpm paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
The KTM 125 Duke has a liquid-cooled 124 cc single-cylinder engine which generates 15 bhp and 12 Nm of torque paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The Yamaha R15 V3 is 2 seconds quicker than the KTM 125 Duke to reach 0-60 Kmph and 6 seconds quicker to reach 0-100 Kmph.
The R15 V3 feels much easier to ride with sufficient torque on tap for quick overtakes on the highway. The 125 Duke has no problems cruising between 70 to 80 Kmph but the motor lacks the power when the bike reaches triple-digit speeds. The Yamaha R15 V3 is equally refined as the KTM but at the higher speeds, it feels a lot smoother as the engine is relatively stress-free.
When it comes to fuel efficiency both the Yamaha R15 V3 and the KTM 125 Duke has good fuel efficiency but the R15 will offer much more fuel efficiency when compared with the 125 Duke. The R15 V3 has a shorter wheelbase and it’s lighter than the KTM. The KTM 125 Duke with Australis frame and better suspensions path feel as good as the R15. You can squeeze your way through the tight gaps in traffic with the KTM Duke 125. The R15 isn’t incompetent but it occupies more space on the road.
The Yamaha R15 V3 has a dual-channel ABS unit. The 125 Duke features a single channel ABS. Both these motorcycles differ drastically in terms of design. The 125 Duke and the R15 V3 design has been around for quite a while now yet it still both bikes managed to look quite attractive.
